Portland Gig Club is the latest local group to benefit from a £1,000 donation thanks to Weymouth and Portland Round Table.
Our Chairman Adam Luckhurst visited the gig club’s base at Portland Marina to meet members and present a £1,000 cheque to support the community charity, which rows throughout the year offering social and competitive rowing.
Mr Luckhurst (pictured centre below at the Gig Club) said:
“I was delighted to visit and get to know the Portland Gig Club members and present them with a cheque for £1,000 on behalf of Weymouth and Portland Round Table.
“Since the Round Table re-established this year following Covid we’ve extended our activities to Portland as well as Weymouth. The Gig Club is a perfect example of where we can make a real difference to local good causes.
“I’d like to thank our sponsors and the public for continuing to donate during these increasingly challenging times. Big thanks also go to Round Table members and supporters too, our donations are only possible due to the time and effort they commit to supporting their local community.”

This year Weymouth and Portland Round Table has made donations to local good causes including Fancy’s Farm on Portland and Chickerell Primary School, with more donations set to follow in coming months. Round Table members have raised thousands of pounds at fundraising events, including running a Gin Bar at Weymouth Fayre in the Square festival in May, with more set to follow into 2023.
Following the donation of £1,000 to help The Famous Old Spa in Weymouth purchase a defibrillator the Round Table is now raising funds to support the introduction more of these life-saving machines in public areas.
